Hi, I’m Reto — the person behind Lacesso Studio.
I discovered crochet almost by accident on a flight to New York. I wanted something to keep my hands busy during the journey, picked up a crochet hook… and basically never put it down again. Since then, there’s almost always a project somewhere next to me.
Crochet is my creative counterbalance to a very different everyday life. My main job is in the corporate world, and in the evenings I also teach Pump classes, so Lacesso Studio grew out of the little pockets of time in between — usually with yarn, a hook and a new idea in my hands.
The idea for dog bandanas actually started with a dear friend who once sent me a crochet pattern for one. Ironically, I never even opened the pattern. Much later, while working on a much bigger and more complicated crochet project, I wanted a second project that was simple, relaxing and easy to pick up whenever I needed a break. So I decided to make a bandana for my dog, Opium, from scratch.
I experimented until I found a construction and technique I really liked, made a few more for dogs in the neighborhood, and their owners loved them. That was the moment I started thinking: maybe this could become something more.
And somehow, here we are.
The name Lacesso has a personal meaning too. My name, Reto, means “challenge” in Spanish, and the Latin verb lacessere means “to challenge” or “to provoke.” Lacesso is the form meaning “I challenge,” which felt strangely fitting — crochet started as a challenge, every new design still is one in its own way, and this whole little business definitely is too.
So Lacesso Studio is essentially that: handmade pieces, created one challenge at a time — usually with Opium somewhere nearby.
Crafted, not mass made.
